Etching and burnished aquatint
Harris 107 III.1/III.12
213 x 150 mm; sheet mm 315 x 227.
A rich, fine impression printed on laid paper, with the grain aquatint in one pale tone. The contrasts with the highlights on the heads, the upper demon’s right wing and the girl’s body at the right side are very strong and the burnished areas on the hands, the feet and the skirt are well visible. Only in the early impressions we can appreciate the contrast with the highlights, which then gradually fails, flattening the print. In pristine condition, with full uncut margins. Plate 72 of ‘Los Caprichos’, from the first edition of twelve, of 1799, the only edition printed during the artist’s lifetime. Our sheet is one of the 300 impressions of this edition.
