Joanne Greenbaum was born in 1953 in New York and currently works in New York.
Joanne Greenbaum’s prints and paintings defy conventions of abstraction, playfully destabilizing the traditional grid structure with spontaneous cubic forms and energetic, scrawling lines. Greenbaum often inserts numbers besides the deft gestural marks of her layered constructions, enhancing her enigmatic artistic programs.
Greenbaum completed her B.A. from Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York (1975). She has exhibited widely in the United States and Great Britain, including regular solo exhibitions at D’Amelio Terras, New York and greengrassi, London. In 2007 The Chianti Foundation, Marfa, TX mounted a one-person exhibition of her work. Greenbaum was also showcased at Saatchi Gallery’s group exhibition “The Triumph of Painting: Abstract America” (2007).
