Tess Jaray was born in Vienna in 1937, but grew up in rural England. After graduating from Slade School of Fine Arts in London, where she became the first female teacher in 1968. Jaray spent time in Paris, where she worked with William Hayter's Atelier 17, and traveled throughout Italy, where she was influenced by Renaissance architecture. She has completed many public commissions, and is a prolific printmaker.
