Lisa Ruyter, born in Washington DC, has exhibited internationally since 1993. After receiving her Master's degree from Hunter College, Ruyter taught at various universities throughout the United States. She later settled in Vienna, where she runs a gallery focusing on Viennese artists and teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts. Her work always begins with a photograph, be it archival or one that Ruyter has taken herself. She then strips the photograph of its significant elements and uses broad color zones to flatten the space, intentionally exposing the construction of digital perception.
