Rafael Ferrer was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1933 and now lives in New York City. Ferrer depicts the intense life of the Caribbean in his paintings and prints. With hot colors, deep shadows and mysterious relationships among his figures, Ferrer traces a line between European art and the tropics.
The artist has collaborated with Bud Shark since 1989 to make five lithographs, two woodcuts and many monotypes. With his strong sense of line and color, Ferrer conveys a sense of the magic and mystery of his subjects- a boat on the shoreline, a fruitseller on the beach, or the sea at sunset.
