Sandro Chia was born in Florence, Italy in 1946. After studying at the Instituto d’ Arte, he enrolled at the Academia di Belle Arti in Florence and earned a diploma in 1969. He settled in Rome in 1970 after extensive travel in India, Turkey and throughout Europe. He worked in the conceptual field, exhibiting numerous times in Rome and Europe during the 1970s. After obtaining a scholarship from the city of Mönchengladbach in Germany, he worked there in 1980 and 1981 before moving to New York in 1982. Chia continued to work between New York and Ronciglione.
His prints include “Personnage Assis”, “Amanti” and “Scena Daffeto”, among many others. His works have appeared in various exhibitions in Europe and America dedicated to the “transavantgarde”. He currently lives and works between New York City and Montalcino, Italy.
