Born in Zohor in 1935, Brunovsky studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava in the Department of Graphic Arts with Professor Vincent Hloznik from 1955-1961. He became head of the Department of Graphic Arts and Illustrations in 1970 and was appointed as a professor in 1981. He left the Department in 1990. In 1980, he was awarded the Grand Prix at the International Biennale of Graphic Arts in Cracow, Poland and in 1992 he won the Do Forni Prize in Venice, Italy. He started exhibiting in 1964 and has had many solo exhibitions since, all around the world. He died in Bratislava, Slovakia in 1997.
