Cecily Brown was born in London in 1969 and received her Bachelors in Fine Arts from the Slade School of Art in 1993. Shortly after moving to the U.S., Brown had her first solo exhibition of paintings in New York at Deitch Projects in 1997 and a second in 1998. Since then her paintings have been exhibited at Gagosian Gallery, New York; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; the MACRO, Rome and the Museo Reina Sofia, Madrid. Group exhibitions include the Museum of Contemporary Art, Lake Worth, FL, the Galleria, Arco, Turin; the Saatchi Collection, London; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center, New York.
Brown's first solo exhibition took place in New York at Deitch Projects in 1997. It was met with such success that the gallery held another exhibition of her work the following year. Most recently, her work has been shown at the Gagosian Gallery in Los Angeles and New York. Brown was also featured in the group exhibition “Greater New York: New Art in New York Now” at P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City.
