Christian Boltanski

French , 1944 -

A French sculptor, painter, photographer and film maker, Boltanski was born in Paris in 1944. Mostly self- taught, he began painting in 1958 but didn't come to public attention until the late 1960s when he presented short avant-garde films and published notebooks. In the 1970s, he experimented with the production of objects made of clay and other unusual materials, such as sugar and gauze dressings. His work has been widely exhibited internationally at many prestigious venues, such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid and the Ujaztowski Castel Warsaw in Poland.
