Jacques-Emile Blanche

French , 1861 - 1942

A French painter, Blanche was born in Paris in 1861. He was given an excellent education and came up in a house that once belonged to the princesse de Lamballe, which retained the atmosphere of the 18th century. These early surroundings influenced some of Blanche's works. He received brief instruction in painting from Gervex, but is regarded as self- taught. He gained a reputation as a portrait painter, among some of his works are portraits of his father, Aubrey Beardsley, Yvette Guilbert and the Thaulow family.
