H. Emerson Tuttle
H. Emerson Tuttle was born in Lake Forest, Illinois. Tuttle’s interest in birds began almost as soon as he could hold a pencil. He was a teacher of English at Westminster and Groton Schools and was headmaster of Davenport College at Yale. While teaching at Groton in 1921, he began to produce his first prints and achieved almost immediate recognition. His first one-man show was in 1924 in Boston and by the time of his death he had produced 177 prints.
