Federico Barocci

Italian , 1528 - 1612

Barocci, also known as Il Baroccio, was a famous painter and printmaker who worked during the late Renaissance. He was awarded several commissions by the Pope before returning to his hometown of Urbino in 1552. His figures and compositions show Mannerist tendencies, as well as the swirling movement, tender emotions and captivating drama that looks forward to the Baroque masters. Many of his drawings, pastels and cartoons for larger paintings still exist today.
