Johann Heinrich Schonfeld

German , 1609 - 1682

German painter and etcher, Johann Heinrich Schönfeld was born in Biberach an der Riss in 1609. Not much is known about his early career, but he spent about a decade in Italy (mainly Rome and Naples) as a young man.

Schönfeld settled in Augsburg in 1652, after which his development can be traced through dated works. Drawing on various Italian influences, Schönfeld had a lively and eclectic style, utilizing elements of German Rococo art.
