Sophie Ryder was born in 1963 in London. From 1980 to 1981 she studied at Kingston Polytechnic and from 1981 to 1984 she studied at the Royal Academy Schools in London. Since 1984 she has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions, group exhibitions and art fairs in many parts of the United Kingdom, mainland Europe, Canada, the United States, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Ryder has also undertaken a number of residencies, including the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Grizedale Forest in 1986, Salisbury Cathedral in 1987, Forest of Dean in 1988, Kilkenny, Eire in 1992, Boulogne, France in 1996 and the Cheekwood Sculpture Park in Nashville, Tennessee in 1997.
Ryder is an artist of great versatility who makes wire and bronze sculptures, installation, wire drawings, collages and prints.
