Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1958, Ed Pien immigrated to Canada at the age of eleven. He received a Master of Fine Arts from York University in Toronto in 1984. His work has been the focus of numerous national and international exhibitions in such notable institutions as the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, The Drawing Center in New York, the Centro Nacional de las Artes in Mexico City and the Goethe Institute in Berlin.
Ed Pien’s artwork draws on sources both Eastern and Western. Exploring the convergence of history, beliefs and mythology, his drawing based practice has often included intricate large scale installations that the viewer must enter and wander through. The artist’s work is included in many major collections including the National Galleryof Canada, the Museo de Arte y diseno Contemporaneo, Costa Rica and the Fundacion Antoni Tapies, Barcelona.
