Joseph Christopher Robertson
Joseph Christopher Robertson received his BA in Art in 1948 at the University of Arkansas and earned his MFA in 1950 at the University of Iowa where he studied under the eminent etching maker Mauricio Lasansky. In subsequent years pursued post graduate studies at the University of California at Berkley and the University of Iowa. Travel-Study experiences in Europe, Mexico, and Canada further enriched his work.
His work is found in permanent collections at the University of Arkansas, the University of Iowa, Arkansas State Gallery, Delgado Gallery, Delgado Community College, New Orleans, Brooks Museum of Art, Memphis, TN, the Asheville Art Museum, Asheville, NC, Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, NC, the Black Mountain Center for the Arts, Asheville, NC.
Robertson was the Chair of the Art Department at Mars Hill College from 1951 until 1990. He traveled broadly, visiting Europe and Central America. He participated in over twenty-two solo exhibitions, including the Asheville Art Museum in North Carolina.
