Jane Hammond
American
(born 1950)
Born in Connecticut, Jane Hammond's work is composed of myriad layers of media, ideas and associations. The process of piecing together an image is a kind of meditative exercise for Hammond, having "more to do with duration than texture. I see it as a function of time, like the idea of chanting." Hammond was awarded the Louis Comfort Tiffany Award from the New York State Council on the Visual Arts, a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Fellowship in Painting, and a New York Foundation for the Arts Grant in Painting. She received her M.F.A. from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and now lives and works in New York City.
