Erik Desmazières

Erik Desmazières was born in Rabat, Morocco in 1948. He attended the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Paris and studied printmaking at the Cours du Soir de la Ville in Paris. Desmazières is a member of La Societe des Peintres Graveurs Francais. He is an intaglio printmaker of the Art Fantastique school, whose students find their aesthetic antecedents in Callot, Durer, Bresdin and Piranesi.

Desmazières manipulates the techniques of etching and aquatint to produce effects of space, light and shadow. There is an ethereal quality to his still lifes due to his close attention to detail and his understanding of atmospheric light. He has enjoyed considerable success in the United States and around the world.
