Cherubino Alberti

(1553–1615)

Cherubino Alberti was first trained by his father Michele. He then went to Rome where he attended the Cornelis Cort’s school and learned the art of etching. Afterwards he served as official decorator for Pope Clemente VIII. More than 190 engravings are known, most of which were done between 1570-1580, and the subjects were paintings by Michelangelo, Caravaggio and Rosso Fiorentino, many of them printed in first edition by Alberti himself.
