Glenn O. Coleman
Glenn O. Coleman was born in Springfield, Ohio in 1887. His talent for drawing was apparent and it earned him a position as an apprentice artist for an Indianapolis newspaper while he was still a teenager. He went to New York City in 1905, where he studied with Ash Can artists Everett Shinn and Robert Henri. A classmate of George Bellows, he assisted in organizing the First Independent Exhibition in 1910 and his ability to associate with the poor enabled him to sell drawings to the socialist magazine, “The Masses”.
Coleman was a member of the Society of Independent Artists, the New Society of Artists and the Whitney Studio Club. His prints include “Hurdy Gurdy Ballet”, among others.
