Helen A. Strojny

American (1911–2003)

A native of Chicago, Helen A. Strojny graduated the School of the Art Institute in 1935. She also attended the Corcoran School of Art, Washington, DC, 1948; the University of Arizona, Tempe, 1956/58; and Phoenix College, Arizona, 1960/61. Strojny felt a huge affinity for Arizona, and from the mid-1950s its desert landscape was her major theme. In particular she spent extensive periods drawing and painting in the Grand Canyon area -- works that are remarkable in their concise and unsentimental interpretation of this iconic subject.
