Felix Buhot

French painter, printmaker, writer and draughtsman Felix Buhot was born in Valognes, Normandy in 1847. In 1866, he moved to Paris where he attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, studying under Isidore-Alexandre-Augustin Pils. The following year, he enrolled in a drawing class taught by Horace Lecoq de Boisbaudran and in 1868 he studied with maritime painter, Jules Noel.

Buhot produced his first etching in 1873 using techniques taught to him by Louis Monzies and Adolphe Lalauze. Some of his prints were published in “L’Art” and Roger Lesclide’s “Paris a’ l’eau-forte”. Buhot also illustrated books, among them, “L’Ensorcelee” in 1897 and Alphonse Daudet’s “Lettres de Mon Moulin” in 1882.
