Norman Ackroyd

One of Britain’s best-known contemporary printmakers, Norman Ackroyd was born in Leeds, England in 1938. He studied at the Leeds College of Art from 1956 to 1961 and at the Royal College of Art from 1961 to 1964.

One-man exhibitions of Ackroyd’s aquatints, engravings and monotypes have been held at the Scottish Gallery in Edinburgh (1985), the National Museum of Art in Santiago, Chile (1987), the Royal Society of Etchers and Engravers in London (1988), the Oxford Royal Art Gallery (1992) and at the Royal Academy of Arts in London (1995, 1996 and 1997). In 1989 Ackroyd was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy and in 1991, he was made a full Academician.

In 1975 the Print Club of Cleveland commissioned Ackroyd to produce a print. The resulting original aquatint engraving, “Loch” is a prime example of Ackroyd’s famous work. "Loch" was published in 1975 in a limited edition of 259 impressions.
