(1913–1998)
Mexican sculptor, printmaker and teacher Francisco Zúñiga was born in San José, Costa Rica in 1913. He studied sculpture under his father, Manuel María Zúñiga. In 1936, he moved to Mexico where he attended the Escuela de Talla Directa, studying under Guillermo Ruíz and Oliverio Martínez.
Zúñiga’s encounters with works by Auguste Rodin, Aristede Maillol and Henry Moore made lasting impressions and directly influenced his work. Zúñiga was especially devoted to the female form, both naked and clothed.
