Julian Alden Weir was born in 1852 in West Point, New York. He received his initial training from his father who was a painter. Weir went to Paris and Rome and was influenced by Pissaro, Manet and Whistler. Weir’s etchings convey his superb draughtsmanship and his delicate touch.
Weir was a member of the National Academy of Design, the Association of American Painter and Sculptors, the American Watercolor Society, the Connecticut Academy of Fine Art and the Century Association, among others.
