Jacques Villon

French (1875–1963)

Born in Dauville, Villon's real name was Gaston Duchamp and he was the brother of painter Marcel Duchamp. Living in Paris from 1894, Villon was influenced by Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec, and produced humourous drawings, posters and engravings. Forming the 'Section D'or'group in 1912, Villon was later reduced to poverty and selling only engravings during the aftermath of World War I until 1930, when he returned to painting and the use of pure colors.
