Richard Tuttle

Born in New Jersey, Richard Tuttle studied at Trinity College in Hartford. He was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1968, the 74th Annual Exhibition Biennial Prize by the Art Institute of Chicago in 1982, and the Skowhegan Medal for Sculpture in 1988.

He has been an intellectual mainstay of the contemporary art scene since the early 1960s. His minimal combinations of abstract forms are investigations of spatial and color relationships. The paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints that he has created over his lifetime have had a major influence on the post- minimalist movement.
