Dealers:
Kumi Sugai was born in Kobe, Japan in 1919. From 1952 he worked as a painter, sculptor and printmaker in Paris. Printmaking became a major part of his oeuvre after the early 1950s and he produced some 400 prints.
In the early 1960s his style showed a dramatic change. Sugai adopted a “hard-edge”, geometric imagery in contrast to his previous oriental, calligraphy-influenced brush- like style. Kumi Sugai died in Paris in 1996.
