Pat Steir

Born in New Jersey, Pat Steir studied graphic art and received a BFA from the Pratt Institute in New York. She currently lives and works in New York.

Her paintings and prints have been described as a conversation with the past -- specifically with certain art historical movements, from Abstract Expressionism to Romanticism to traditional Chinese painting. Working with these influences, she explores the nature of visual signs, symbols, and natural phenomena.
