Vistus Balch
American
(1799–1884)
Born in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Balch went on to work in Utica, Albany and New York as an engraver. He engraved a number of book illustrations, and contributed several plates to the New York Mirror. In 1825 Balch made a portrait of Dr. Samuel L. Mitchell, drawn on stone, for Imbert - who was the pioneer lithographer of NYC.
