Guiseppe Arcimboldo

Born in 1527 in Milan, Italy, Arcimboldo grew up during the height of the Renaissance and soon found himself to be a student of Leonardo Da Vinci. He gained a position in the imperial court of Emperor Ferdinand I as a party planner, and copier of court portraits.

Arcimboldo is the self- proclaimed inventor of the "composite head", a form of painting wherein faces and features are rendered with clumps of assorted vegetables and other materials. He is probably best known for his painting, "Man in the Vegetables".
