Horst Janssen

Winner of the Venice Biennale in 1968, Horst Janssen is celebrated as one of Europe's leading graphic artists. His work, informed by an idiosyncratic, often macabre, vision, is characterized by an inimitable and immediately recognizable line. A literary thread also runs through many of his images, a result of his intense interest in literature and music, especially Franz Schubert. His work is found in public and private collections throughout the world. Of particular note is the recently opened Horst Janssen Museum in Oldenberg, Germany.
