Albert Irvin

British (born 1922)

Irvin was born in London and is a Senior Member of the Royal Academy of Arts. During World War II his studies at art school were disrupted when he was called up to become a Navigator in the Royal Air Force. He graduated from Goldsmith’s in 1950 and returned to the college in 1962 as a tutor. In 1968 and 1975 he won awards from the Arts Council of Great Britain and in 1982 and 1986 he won printmaking prizes from the Gulbenkian and Bradford Print Biennale. His long standing realtionship with Advanced Graphics London began in 1980 and the first edition of his catalogue raisonne ‘Albert Irvin: The Complete Prints’ was published in 2010. His paintings are exhibited at Gimpel Fils and his paintings and prints are included in collections across Europe and the United States.
