             Meisho Edo hyakkei
Fine impression, with karazuri on the plumage of the birds and strong wood grain in the sky and in the water; fine colour, slight trimming in the margins. Otherwise in very good condition; retains original Japanese album backing.
The title of the print lists three different villages northwest of the Yoshiwara: the scene is looking from Minowa and Kanasugi toward Mikawashima, where the Shogun’s Crane Hunt occurred almost every winter, when cranes migrated to Japan.
A fine, early impression of this print is at the Brooklyn Museum (Accession Number: 30.1478.102)
