More Information

In all of Morinoue’s work there is a compelling sense of place–the ocean shoreline, lava flows and Japanese gardens. He is a patient observer of nature, its rhythms, cycles and patterns, and these observations become poetic images in a variety of media, including painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics and prints. In this new woodcut Hiroki Morinoue pairs images of fish, a butterfly and dragonflies, as seen through and reflected on water. Dragonfly Pond is a fifteen color woodcut with pochoir, printed from four woodblocks and one stencil, on white Thai Mulberry paper 37 x 28¾” in an edition of 30, plus proofs.
