More Information

Hopper taught himself etching in 1915 while in New York City and produced much of his most personal work over the next ten years in that medium before concentrating fully on painting. "Night Shadows" articulates the poignant themes of alienation and man's fate as a often solitary traveller, subjects which have made Hopper one of the most admired American artists of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
