Henri Joseph Harpignies
Henri Joseph Harpignies is best known as one of the most talented French ‘plein-air’ landscape painters of his era. He was a pupil of Achard and a profound admirer of Corot.
Harpignies was also an extremely gifted etcher. His entire oeuvre consists of some 35 etchings, the finest of which date from before 1865. His most rare and delicately worked compositions were drawn around 1850.
Harpignies's prints were only issued in very small editions, with an exceptional quality of misty light, as in “Paysage au Bouquets d’Arbres”.
