English etcher, watercolorist, author and scholar, Martin Hardie was born in London in 1875.He was educated at Cambridge and the Royal College of Art where he studied etching techniques under Sir Frank Short.
From 1921 to 1935, Hardie held the influential post of Keeper of the Department of Prints and Drawings at the Victoria and Albert Museum and created a revival of interest in the etchings and watercolors of Samuel Palmer and his school.
Hardie was a member of the Royal Engravers and the Royal Watercolor Society. Throughout his life, Hardie produced over one hundred and ninety original etchings and engravings. He died in 1952.
