Maria Elena Gonzalez

Cuban/American , 1957 -

Shaped by a unique approach to minimalism and conceptual art that draws upon architectural spaces remembered, the repertoire of the internationally known sculptor, Maria Elena González, has been expanded significantly in drawing and printmaking. The breadth of this work, fragile and complex, communicates a strong reference to Eastern and Western drawing and perspective.

González, who emigrated from Cuba to the U.S. when she was eleven years old, divides her time between New York and Switzerland. Her work evokes a familiarity with her early displacement and present transience. Her images comprise simple geometric forms that allude to cultural, political and physical experiences that influence her multi-cultured personality.
