John Wesley Cotton

Canadian/American , 1869 - 1931

John Wesley Cotton was born in Dundas, Ontario, Canada in 1869. He received his early art training in Toronto and later attended the Chicago Art Institute. He studied in London in 1911 with E. Marsdon Wilson. Cotton was stationed in France with the Education Corps of the A.E.F. after the armistice took charge of the Etching Department of the University of Beaune.

He was a member of the California Art Club, California Watercolor Society, The Printmakers’ Painters’ and Sculptors’ clubs, all of Los Angeles, and the Chicago Society of Etchers. His prints have been shown at the Royal Academy of London and are included in many prominent private collections.
