Samuel Colman

American , 1832 - 1920

Colman is said to have trained with Hudson River School painters, and is known for his paintings of the Hudson River, as well as his scenes of European cities. His romantic style of painting earned him acclaim in his early career; later he learned to paint with watercolor and also trained as an etcher. He was one of the earliest members of the New York Etching Society.
