Etcher, lithographer and block printer, Charles M. Capps was born in 1898 in Jacksonville, Illinois. As a boy, he worked at a clothing mill, like his father. Later, Capps studied at the Illinois College of Jacksonville and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. He moved to Wichita and became a member of C.A. Seward’s staff at Western Lithograph where he remained for a number of years. Capps was a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers, the Society of American Etchers and the Prairie Printmakers.
