Joseph Alexander Adams

American , 1803 -

Born in New Germantown, New Jersey, Adams was one of the earliest American wood engravers. Largely self-taught he was elected an Associate member of the National Academy of Design in 1841. Famed for his Bible illustrations, Adams' "Last Arrow" engraving was made for the New York Mirror. Adams also worked for the Treasury of Knowledge and other publications.
