Brosamer is generally considered one of the Little Masters, although he was not a native of Nuremberg. He was probably born in Wittenberg at the turn of the sixteenth century and likely died in Frankfurt. During his lifetime he lived and worked in Erfurt, Nuremberg and Fulda. Most of his work is original, though he occasionally copied the designs of other engravers. He made over 600 woodcuts, largely book illustrations, but only 37 engravings, most of which are quite rare.
