Paul Berthon

French , 1872 - 1909

A French lithographer and designer Berthon was born in 1872 in Chartrettes. He first studied as a painter in Villefranche before going to Paris in 1893. There he attended the Ecole Normale d'Enseignement de Dessin where he studied under Luc- Oliver Merson and Eugene Grasset who became his greatest influence. Berthon is widely known for his posters and decorative panels, but he also produced bookbindings and furniture designs which he exhibited at the Salon in 1895.
