Born in New York, William Wood attended Manhattan College and the School of Visual Arts in New York. He was awarded the Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation Studio Grant in 1997. He currently lives and works in New York City.
Wood creates ethereal compositions of abstract shapes and patterns, reminiscent of landscapes viewed from afar, inner parts of the body or macro- views of flowers. Rendered in a limited palette, his works are mysterious and sensuous. They resemble photographs in their wide tonal range, yet Wood crafts many of his paintings and prints with common household implements.
