Tom Wesselmann

American , 1931 - 2004

Tom Wesselmann (1931-2004) is widely considered to have been one of the leading American Pop artists. Wesselmann's choices of subject matter - still life, nude, landscape - are universally recognisable classical themes from the canon of art history. Over the course of his career, he reinterpreted these themes using his own distinctive visual language, characterised by a reductive line and bold, flat primary colours, often incorporating symbols of American culture.
