Henry Somm

French , 1844 - 1907

French painter, illustrator, designer and printmaker, Henry Somm was born in Rouen in 1844. He attended the Ecole Municipale de Dessin in Rouen, where he studied under Gustave Morin. He made a living by selling illustrations to periodicals, contributing, among others, to “Charge”, “Cravache”, “L’Inutile”, “ Chronique parisienne” and “Courier français”. Somm created spirited drawings, deriving his humor from topicality, hence, making his fame somewhat short-lived.
