Born in Connecticut in 1952, Baril received a BFA in photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York City and while still a student there, began working as Robert Mapplethorpe's printer. While establishing himself as a master printer, he began to quietly make his own photographs. One of his best known images is his photograph of the Chrysler Building. He began to photograph flowers in 1994 and in 2000, released a book of photographs called, "Botanica". Baril has had solo exhibitions in cities throughout the United States and Europe and his work has been featured in numerous publications.
