Hendricus C. Balink
Hendricus Cornelius Balink was born in Amsterdam in 1881. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Amsterdam before moving to New York in 1914 to further his education. After moving to Chicago to fulfill portrait commissions, Balink was inspired by a poster in a railway ticket office to explore the American Southwest. In 1923, he and his wife settled in Taos, New Mexico where he remained until his death in 1963. Balink is best known for his fine depictions of the Pueblo Indians.
